Quality video made by Squirrelod on what upgrades to make to your SC10. There are two parts, the first part covers bearings, transmission, and CVD's. The second part covers Motor Mounting, gearing, and tires. Definitely worth watching and there are some ideas that you should try.
Part One
Part Two

I have 5 SC10 4x4's.
Two are set up to race, three as bashers.
My bashers have 5.3" crawler tires and geared with 6 tooth 32 pitch pinion gears. You have grind longer openings in the motor mounts to mount less than a 10 tooth pinion on the motor.
You can put Slash type tires on a SC10 4x4 and bash with standard gearing, just watch your motor temperatures.(The most common problem with bashers is running in rough terrian with race gearing and overheating electronics.)
If you choose to bash with standard gearing and SC tires, all you have to do to race is change the tire type and maybe readjust your ride height spring tension and go racing.
Frankly, it is never the best ideal to bash and race with the same vehicle. Although a quality race truck makes a great basher. But, a great basher "like a Slash 4x4" may not be the best race vehicle.
I have been racing since 1988.
I have 20+ vintage RC10 and RC10T's, 6-Rc18T's, 4- SC10 (two presently set up for bashing), 5-SC10 4x4 and two electric boats.
Can anyone help me? i would like to purchase an SC10 4x4, and i do like to race now and then. Most of my friends are bashers. I have been told by several web sites and other sorces that you can BASH the SC10 4x4 some one please read this comment or post, and please give me a response. The question at hand is "Can you bash the SC10 4x4 and still possibly race as well?" I will probably be bashing more than racing. I do not want to buy the Ten SCTE, for i am a Ae fan through and though. thank you
Please right me at the the e-mail above

Again Thank you
I guess begging didn't get you an answer. What do you mean by can I race and bash a 4x4 sc10? You can do whatever you want. If your going to race though your going to be far from competitive. 4x4 class is always ran as a mod class there is no stock 4x4 class. Your going to be racing with guys who have stepped up from 2wd spec to mod to pro 4 (4x4) so not only are their trucks going to be faster, they're going to have years of experience. Racing is all about fun though and maybe having to compete like that will make you better faster. Moral of the story is you can do whatever you want.
The best thing to do as you save money is get a nitro 4x4 like a Revo for bashing. That's real bashing, a short course truck will never provide the high flying jumps, speed, sound and exhilaration a nitro revo will provide when just having fun. Then go and get yourself an sc10 2wd so you can start competitively in the spec/stock class. That's the best combination I could imagine, I love having both.
